Encyclia tampense
is an epiphytic species native to south Florida. 'Mendenhall'
is an albino variety of the plant. The normal coloration has
a bright magenta spot in the middle of the front lobe of the
lip.
Encyclia tampense
grows easily in bright light and warm temperatures. It can bloom
in both the spring and the fall. The blooming photographed above
took place during the spring of 2003, and the flowers lasted
from early May into July.
